U/RTA integrates educational and professional theatre, and contributes towards the advancement and improvement of the American theatre. It is committed to the development and expansion of important professional theatre and training laboratories, in which advanced students and professional artists work together to encourage achievement in production and performance. The results are skilled artists trained by professionals, and enriched programming that serves the surrounding communities.

U/RTA member organizations support the ideal of professional excellence in all areas of production and believe that this goal demands constant attention to the improvement of theatre training in order to supply the professional theatre with better trained artists and craftspeople.
